By day Conor Heelan is a print design lecturer at Dublin Institute of Technology. But after the classroom Conor grabs any opportunity for adventure and extreme sports. You’ll find him skydiving, kitesurfing, wakeboarding and base jumping all around the country. Conor may be an extreme athlete but he is also a type 1 diabetic and uses his sports and adventures to raise funds for the Diabetic Centre in Beaumont Hospital.
His first love is skydiving and he jumps often with friends at the Irish Parachute Club in Offaly. His first base jump was off the Viaduc des Égratz in France and since then he has been hooked and has done more than 40 base jumps throughout Europe and Ireland.
‘I don’t have a death wish. You just jump, but, the real challenge is being in a calm enough mind so that if something does go wrong, you’re going to react correctly.’
